TWITTER DIARY OF A MADMAN
Prez’s spree of bile & rants
PRESIDENT TRUMP shared inflammatory Islamophobic videos Wednesday on Twitter, giving a boost to a far-right English group and drawing condemnation from British Prime Minister Theresa May.
The trio of offensive posts — supposedly portraying Muslims committing acts of violence — came amid a turbulent 24 hours in which the President erupted on Twitter, at turns celebrating the firing of Matt Lauer, calling for a boycott of CNN and needling Democrats until they canceled a White House meeting. Early Wednesday morning, Trump retweeted three videos, two of which were titled “Islamist mob pushes teenage boy off roof” and “Muslim destroys a statue of Virgin Mary,” from the account of an antiIslam fringe group called Britain First.
May spokesman James Slack said the group seeks to divide communities through its use of “hateful narratives which peddle lies and stoke tensions.” He added that May thought “it is wrong for the President to have done this.”
Trump went on to post a series of rambling tweets Wednesday about NBC firing Matt Lauer over sexual misconduct allegations, saying executives at NBC and Comcast should be “fired for putting out so much Fake News.”
He also called for a boycott of CNN after its decision to pull out of the White House Christmas party and managed to insinuate that MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough should be investigated for murder.
The bizarre behavior came as a series of important deadlines that could define his first year in office loom on the horizon.
His fellow Republicans on the Hill are attempting to pass a sweeping tax overhaul and avoid a government shutdown.
The President’s wild week had already included referring to Sen. Elizabeth Warren as “Pocahontas” while honoring Navajo heroes of World War II and warring with congressional Democrats over federal funding.
