Wife: Matt was ‘cruel’

- Joe Dziemianowicz

MATT LAUER has been accused of being inappropriate before — by his wife.

The ousted “Today” show anchor, who was fired for “inappropriate sexual behavior,” was accused 11 years ago of “cruel and inhumane” acts by Annette Roque.

The 50-year-old Roque, who wed the Peacock poster boy in 1998, reportedly filed for divorce from her husband in September 2006 before withdrawing the documents, according to paperwork first obtained by the National Enquirer.

The documents came to light in 2014. In them, Roque, a model and mother to Lauer’s three children, claimed she suffered “cruel and inhumane” treatment by Lauer.

In addition to being controlling over “even the smallest decisions” related to finances, travel plans and decorating, Roque’s attorney argued that Lauer demonstrated “extreme anger and hostility” toward Roque, according to the documents.

Lauer and Roque, who was pregnant at the time she filed for divorce, reconciled. Roque gave birth to the couple’s son, Thijs, two months after the divorce was initially filed.

Lauer’s first marriage to TV producer Nancy Alspaugh ended in divorce in 1988. He was engaged to Kristen Gesswein, but they split in 1996.
