Cops Taser man to stop stab try

- Rocco Parascandola

A KNIFE-WIELDING Brooklyn man was Tasered by an NYPD sergeant as he tried to attack another man, police said Wednesday.

Zabwom Welch, 39, was zapped in the buttocks and taken into custody, police said. He’s been charged with weapons possession and resisting arrest.

Police said Welch was threatening to stab an upstairs neighbor, a 53-year-old man with whom he had been arguing. The argument spilled outside their apartment on Manhattan Ave., near Siegel St., in Williamsburg, about 7:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Welch had a 12-inch knife up his left-hand sleeve, police said, and at first appeared to be ready to put the knife down when officers ordered him to do so. But then he made a beeline towards his neighbor, who by that point was across the street, police said.

That’s when the sergeant fired his Taser, cops said.
