Pol harass slap on his way out
ALBANY — A state assemblyman who is leaving the chamber to become an upstate county executive received a parting gift — ethics sanctions for allegedly sexually harassing an Assembly staffer and leaking confidential information about the subsequent probe.
Assemblyman Steve McLaughlin (R-Rensselaer County) violated the chamber’s sexual harassment and hostile workplace policy by making lewd comments to a female staffer and asking for nude photos, the chamber’s Ethics Committee determined. Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie accepted the findings.
The committee also found he leaked confidential information about the probe, including the complainant’s name.
McLaughlin, during an appearance on Albany radio, denied any wrongdoing, calling the case a “witch hunt.”
