Boone’s not backing boneheaded bro
YANKEES managerial candidate Aaron Boone was trying to distance himself from his brother’s Twitter comments that made light of sexual harassment on Wednesday.
Bret Boone sent an unsolicited direct message to a reporter, which read: “I got sexually harrased twice today. the Starbucks girl smiled at me and the woman at rite aid flirted with me. Im getting a lawyer, unacceptable lol.”
When the reporter, Stephen Cohen of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, asked why Bret Boone would make those comments — and shared screenshots of the exchange — the former Mariners second baseman replied from his verified account: “Because it’s a joke and I have no clue who u are,nor do I care.Just sick of all the liberal bs and everyone all the sudden is offended.sorry that bothered u.go back to whatever you do in your pc world, and once again,I apologize if u were offended...You definitely would not be allowed to play golf in my foursome
“Oops, just happened again, the girl at vons told me to have a good day .... lol..are you serious guy”
Aaron Boone is one of six candidates to have interviewed for the Yankees’ job.
One user, “@cmmcmick” tweeted: “If the @Yankees hire @AaronBoone_ESPN I’m done with the team. I know it’s his brother but I bet the share beliefs on this.”
Aaron Boone, currently a baseball analyst at ESPN, then responded from his verified account: “Then you bet wrong.”
Another user, “@ericorioles” tweeted “@espn What do you think of @AaronBoone_ESPN comments about sexual harassment? Tasteless, scum I sure hope he doesn’t represent the thoughts and opinions of @espn” Aaron Boone then replied: “I didn’t make any comments.”
Bret Boone later issued an apology for his comments via Twitter. — Mazzeo
