Tampa slays eyed as a capital case

- Rich Schapiro

FLORIDA PROSECUTORS will likely seek the death penalty against the former St. John’s University basketball player suspected of slaying four people in Tampa.

“The death penalty should be reserved for the worst of the worst, and, generally speaking, serial killing would qualify,” Tampa State Attorney Warren said Thursday.

Warren spoke after accused serial killer Howell (Trai) Donaldson was ordered held without bail in his first court appearance.

“I’m praying for his family,” Kenny Hoffa, the father of victim Monica Hoffa, said after the brief hearing, the Tampa Bay Times reported.

Donaldson faces four counts of first-degree murder in the killing spree that terrorized Tampa for 51 days.
