Guilty of hijab hate
A BROOKLYN WOMAN will spend six months on Rikers Island for attacking two Muslim women, authorities said.
Emirjeta Xhelili, 32, pleaded guilty Thursday to assault as a hate crime for trying to rip hijabs — traditional head coverings — off two women walking with their children in Bath Beach.
Xhelili screeched “Get the f--- out of America, b-----s,” and “This is America, you shouldn’t be different from us,” during the September 2016 attack.
Albert Fox Cahn, legal director for the Council on American-Islamic Relations, thanked the Brooklyn district attorney’s office for its “swift” conclusion to this case.
“It is intolerable to think that these young mothers and their children were targeted in broad daylight, on a street in Brooklyn, for doing nothing more than practicing their faith,” Cahn said.
