Devs blanked in AZ

-

Scott Wedgewood stopped 26 shots for his first shutout of the season and second of his career, leading the host Arizona Coyotes to a 5-0 victory over the New Jersey Devils on Saturday night.

Derek Stepan had a goal and an assist, and Jason Demers, Jordan Martinook, Alex Goligoski and Dylan Strome also scored for Arizona, which snapped a threegame losing streak and won at home in regulation for the first time this season. Kevin Connauton and Christian Fischer each had two assists.

Keith Kinkaid finished with 22 saves for New Jersey, which came in with the NHL’s best road record at 9-2-2.

Wedgewood was playing in place of the injured Antti Raanta and facing his former team for the first time since the Devils traded him to the Coyotes in October. Two of his saves came in back-toback fashion early in the second period when he turned away attempts from Travis Zajac and Drew Stafford from close range.

SHIFFRIN WINS

U.S. slalom star Mikaela Shiffrin raced to her first World Cup downhill victory Saturday at Lake Louise.

Racing in her fourth career downhill, the 22-year-old Olympic and world slalom champion finished in 1 minute, 27.55 seconds to edge Germany’s Viktoria Rebensberg by 0.13 seconds.

“The biggest thing is I’m learning about Dainan Swoope drained a 3-point jumper, was fouled and added a free throw and the 4-point play sparked host Elon in double overtime.

Quinn Taylor, who forced both overtimes, led Saint Peter’s (3-4) with a career-high 17 points and 12 rebounds. —AP the mentality to ski well in downhill and ski the way that I want to,” said Shiffrin, third Friday in the opening downhill. “I’ve skied here a couple times now, so I felt Lake Louise was a really good opportunity for me because I have some experience on the track. I wasn’t planning to win, but I was planning to come here, do my best and see what happened.”

The defending World Cup overall champion won a slalom last week in Vermont. She extended her overall lead over Rebensburg to 149 points. Rebensburg won the first two World Cup giant slalom races of the season.

Madrid is three points behind secondplace Valencia, which plays at Getafe on Sunday.

Madrid also lost ground to third-place Atletico Madrid, which defeated Real Sociedad 2-1 at home Real
