Late is not so great with coach

TWO Jets players were disciplined during Sunday’s 38-31 victory over the Chiefs for violating team rules. Linebacker Darron Lee was inactive for the game because he arrived late to Saturday’s walk-through practice, according to a source. Defensive lineman Muhammad Wilkerson, meanwhile, was benched for nearly the entire first quarter. Wilkerson was late to a team meeting Saturday, per a source. This is the third time in three seasons Wilkerson has been suspended for being late or missing team meetings.

Todd Bowles handed down both punishments. “I make coach’s decisions every week. You’re disappointed and then you move on,” Bowles said. “We handle it. We take care of it. We don’t let it linger.”

Wilkerson — who is the highest-paid player on the Jets by nearly $10 million — has talked repeatedly this season about taking on a leadership role with Bowles’ young group. He refused to comment on the concerning trend.

“It was a coach’s decision,” said Wilkerson, who played his first snap Sunday with less than a minute remaining in the opening period. “That’s all I’m going to keep saying. That’s all it is.” Lee addressed his teammates before the game and apologized for his actions. “I take full responsibility for it,” Lee said. “I let my guys down today.”

Lee expects to play next Sunday in Denver. “It’s over with,” Lee said. “I’ll see y’all Sunday.”

DYNAMIC DUO

Wide receivers Robby Anderson (eight catches, 107 yards) and Jermaine Kearse (nine catches, 157 yards) both topped 100 yards for the second consecutive game Sunday. It marked the first time since 1967 that two Jets receivers logged 100 yards in back-to-back contests. The last to do it were Don Maynard and George Sauer.

“Proving a lot of critics wrong, and now they’re going to start acting like they’re for us and they believe in us. But we all know that that’s not the case,” Anderson said. “It feels good. Me and (Kearse) put in a lot of work, a lot of patience. And it feels good for everything to be coming together like that.”

Added Kearse: “We’re hungry out there. We have a lot of things that we want to prove to the world … and I feel like we’ve been successful doing so.”

REVIS ISLAND VACATION OVER

Former Jet cornerback Darrelle Revis started for the Chiefs Sunday in his season debut, but he struggled in the first half and was benched for the final two quarters. Kansas City coach Andy Reid said he pulled Revis because of his snap count.

“He’s just getting back into the game,” Reid said.

“I’m trying to dust off the cobwebs,” Revis said. “I haven’t played in 12 months, so I’m getting back into the mix of things and trying to have fun out there.” — with Manish Mehta
