Tinder twit gets 6 yrs. in $50G fraud

- Shayna Jacobs

A TINDER THIEF who duped three dates into giving him a total of about $50,000 by telling bogus sob stories — including needing help with cancer treatments for his mom and sister — was sentenced Wednesday to up to six years in prison.

Brandon Kiehm, 37, delivered a bizarre and meandering sentencing statement in an apparent bid for leniency, quoting poetry and “Finding Nemo.” He was sentenced after pleading guilty to grand larceny, scheme to defraud and identity theft covering three cases.

“I’m reminded of a short animated film I watched …” he said, insisting he was ready to make changes in his life.

Like Dory’s character in the Disney aquatic adventure “Finding Nemo,” he would “just keep swimming.”

Kiehm conned two women into helping him pay for what he falsely claimed were cancer treatments for his mother and sister in 2015. Kiehm insisted he has learned his lesson and has been working on bettering himself since he was jailed 15 months ago.

Justice Michael Sonberg was moved by the defendant's remarks.

“I think if you meant what you read . . . there is hope of redemption once you pay your debt to society,” the judge said.
