2 charged in ripoff of Sandy aid

- Andrew Keshner

A ROCKLAND COUNTY couple was busted for scamming the government out of nearly $100,000 in Hurricane Sandy relief money.

Gary Osborne, a designer with a high-end baby clothes company Oliver & Adelaide, and William Grella, a doctor, were arrested by the feds on disaster relief fraud charges.

Court papers say the pair sought Sandy relief money claiming their New Suffolk, L.I., property was their primary residence.

The couple was actually based in Chestnut Ridge, Rockland County, prosecutors said — even pointing to media stories on Osborne where he talked about weekending on the East End.

According to court papers, the pair received almost $80,000 in federal and state money they were not entitled to get.

Osborne, 44, and Grella, 64, were released from Long Island federal court Wednesday on $100,000 bond. They face up to 10 years in prison.

Joe Conway, Osborne’s lawyer, told the Daily News “We’re prepared to prove that the New Suffolk address was their primary address.”
