Good neighbors deserve great holiday shopping

-

New York’s northernmost borough boasts some of the city’s most spectacular buildings and landscapes, and the Jerome Gun Hill Business Improvement District (BID) is making sure the historic Norwood section of the Bronx stays beautiful, especially during the holiday shopping season. From now through Christmas, the many shops in the BID are holding huge sales and offer unrivaled variety and value. Come check out the deals at the Children’s Place, Drug Rite, Space Salon, BX Sports, Oval Pharmacy, GNC, Payless Shoe Source and more.

This year, the BID will sponsor a tree lighting in Jerome Garden Plaza on the corner of Mosholu Parkway North and Jerome Avenue on December 13 at 6pm.

Roughly 200 shops, restaurants and offices are open for business at the BID, helping to make the Bronx what it is today; a transformative borough that’s the talk of New York City. “The Jerome Gun Hill BID has its loyal shoppers to thank for its success,” says Jennifer Tausig, executive director of the Jerome Gun Hill BID. “Our shopping district is well maintained, safe and offers quality goods and convenient services at affordable prices to everyone. It’s the perfect place for holiday shopping and preparation.”

The BID is home to a mix of cultures and languages that harness a sense of community in the neighborhood of Norwood, and is the main artery and business center of Norwood, which begins at Mosholu Parkway and travels down East Gun Hill Road toward Webster Avenue. This commercial hub is vital to the Bronx and the entire city as a center for longstanding, community-based organizations, lush parks and jobs in healthcare, the largest private sector employment field in the borough. Norwood is home to public high schools such as the prestigious Bronx Science, DeWitt Clinton and Evander Childs. It is also home to some of the borough’s leading hospitals — Montefiore Medical Center, the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore and North Central Bronx Hospital.

“Working with our board of directors, property owners and merchants, we continue to transform the Jerome Gun Hill BID into a quality shopping district attracting new, exciting stores that meets the needs of the people who live and work in the neighborhood,” says Tausig.

The BID celebrates 21 years of supporting and promoting local business while providing merchants and customers with clean streets and a safe environment. With its fight to keep litter at bay, the BID was given an A1 rating for its private sanitation practices for the past several years. Thanks to generous funding from Council Member Andrew Cohen, the BID has also adopted nine new trash receptacles throughout the corridor to ensure the streets stay clean.

“The BID ensures that people who live, work and visit the neighborhood have a safe, clean, environment to run errands and shop for all their family’s basic needs,” says Dennis O’Brien, newly elected chairman of the BID’s board of directors. The Jerome Gun Hill BID’s motto is “Good neighbors deserve great shopping.”
