Ski mask boy shot dead on B’klyn street
A 17-YEAR-OLD boy dressed in all black and wearing a ski mask was shot dead on a residential street in Brooklyn early Thursday, police said.
John Fernandez was found facedown with a gunshot wound to the neck after cops responded to Bainbridge St. near Broadway in Bedford-Stuyvesant about 5:20 a.m., cops said.
Sources said two witnesses offered cops a tantalizing tip — they heard the sound of gunshots before overhearing a man and a woman apparently discussing the murder.
“Now it will look like a robbery,” one of them said, according to the witnesses.
Fernandez lived about 2 miles away, cops said.
He was also a witness to an unsolved murder in Brooklyn earlier this year — the July 22 shooting death of Carnell Victor, 26, at the Farragut Houses on Bridge St. near the Manhattan Bridge, police sources said. It’s not clear if that had anything to do with the murder, sources said.
Several nearby residents said they heard gunshots just before 3:30 a.m. but they didn’t call the police.
The victim’s body remained on the sidewalk, surrounded by a pool of blood, until workers from the city medical examiner’s office arrived shortly before 10 a.m.
