Uber driver refused me: B’klyn woman

- John Annese

A BROOKLYN writer said an Uber driver refused to pick her up Thursday night, and she fears racism may be the reason behind the snub.

TV show host Ashley Ford tweeted about the 8:30 p.m. encounter. “I just had an @Uber driver stop, look at me, say “no,” and drive off. Without me in the car. And uber charged me $5 for that,” she wrote.

Ford, 30, used her app to hail a car from 23rd St. and Broadway for a trip to Flatbush. When the cab arrived, she asked, “Are you here for Ashley? He looked at me, and he said, ‘No,’ and he drove off,” she said. Ford looked at the license plate, she saw it matched the one on her Uber app.

“It’s hard, because I don’t want to believe it was racist, but I don’t see any other reason why he would have looked at me and said ‘No’ and drove off,” said Ford (photo), who is black. She described the driver as fairskinned. Uber officials said they’ve opened an investigation into what happened, and she ultimately wasn’t charged the $5.
