On-time budget or no raise: gov
ALBANY — State lawmakers, who have been without a raise since 1999, won’t get one if the state budget is late next year, Gov. Cuomo warned Thursday.
“I will not be supportive of any pay raise if the budget isn’t done on time — period,” Cuomo said.
The budget is due by April 1.
“You certainly have to perform at your job if you want a raise,” Cuomo said. “A fundamental indicator for the job the Legislature does and the governor ... is passing the budget on time.”
The current base salary for lawmakers is $79,500.
Spokesman for the Senate GOP and Assembly Democrats had no comment.
