Snow what!? We can deal with storm
SAY IT ain’t snow — the city is poised to see its first flakes of the season this weekend.
A winter storm is expected to dump up to 5 inches of fresh powder in the five boroughs starting early Saturday.
But roadways and sidewalks are expected to remain free of significant accumulation due to temperatures hovering above freezing.
“You’re not going to be able to stick a ruler into the road and get 3 to 5 inches,” said National Weather Service meteorologist Tim Morrin.
“This is not that kind of storm. It’s going to be mostly in the grassy areas.”
The first flakes are expected to fly about 6 a.m. Saturday. A winter weather advisory is in effect until 1 a.m. Sunday.
Morrin said the heaviest snow will likely hit the city Saturday afternoon.
The flakes will fall in sputters into the evening as temperatures fall below freezing.
“That’s when we think road travel will be most treacherous — after it gets dark,” Morrin said.
Whatever snow remains on Sunday will quickly disappear amid sunny skies and afternoon temperatures reaching 40 degrees, Morrin said.
