‘Shoot’ for ‘suit’ goof brings bust
AN OFF-DUTY Bronx NYPD traffic enforcement agent was arrested for making a terrorist threat after she called 911 and threatened to “sue the NYPD” — and the operator thought she said “shoot the NYPD.”
Prosecutors ultimately declined to prosecute, and Cynthia Gonzalez was set free Wednesday afternoon, a day after she was taken into custody.
“It was a misunderstanding,” a spokeswoman for the Bronx district attorney’s office said. “Ms. Gonzalez said she would ‘sue’ the NYPD, not ‘shoot,’ ”
Gonzalez, 40, was arrested about 3 p.m. Tuesday for making a terroristic threat after police tracked the startling 911 call to her cell phone.
But investigators eventually determined the 911 operator misunderstood Gonzalez.
The Bronx DA decided to drop the charges against Gonzalez because her actual statements “did not rise to a criminal level,” the spokeswoman said.
Gonzalez has been a traffic enforcement agent since August 2005, police sources said. She made about $40,000 last year, according to public records.
Attempts to reach Gonzalez were unsuccessful Wednesday.
