Death threat to Cory spurs security boost
NEWARK POLICE are providing New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker with extra security after he received a death threat.
The U.S. Capitol Police notified the Newark Police Division about the threat against the Democratic senator and his family members, Newark Mayor Ras Baraka said Saturday.
“As a result, members of the Police Division’s Executive Protection Unit have been assigned to provide security at the senator’s residence in Newark,” the mayor said in a statement.
Authorities didn’t release further details surrounding the nature of the threat.
Booker (photo), a former Newark mayor, has been critical of President Trump and called on him to resign last week amid sexual harassment allegations against the commander-in-chief.
He recently campaigned with Doug Jones, the Democratic Alabama Senate candidate who defeated Republican Roy Moore in the state’s special election.
Booker’s office did not respond to a Daily News request for comment.
