Clueless judge pick is out over ‘2 worst mins.’
HE WAS stumped by “in limine” — and now he’s e-liminated.
Matthew Petersen, the Trump judicial nominee who couldn’t answer basic legal questions at his Senate confirmation hearing last week, has withdrawn his name from consideration.
In a letter to Trump revealed Monday, Petersen defended his professional record but conceded his utterly painful performance at his televised grilling — and the rampant ridicule that followed — had become a problem.
“I had hoped my nearly two decades of public service might carry more weight than my two worst minutes on television. However, I am no stranger to political realities,” he said.
During the hearing that became a viral internet sensation, Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) got Petersen to admit he had never tried a case before a judge or jury at either the state or federal level, and struggled with basic legal terms likea motion “in limine.”
“Just because you’ve seen ‘My Cousin Vinny’ doesn’t qualify you to be a federal judge,” Kennedy told WWL-TV in New Orleans.
