Jailers’ suit vs. Seabrook is tossed
A FEDERAL judge tossed a suit against former correction officers union chief Norman Seabrook, saying claims he jeopardized members’ pensions were too vague — and they didn’t have enough to lose, anyway.
A handful of active and retired correction officers sued Seabrook and Correction Officers’ Benevolent Association board members last year, claiming Seabrook was allowed to invest $20 million into a Ponzi scheme without much board oversight.
But Judge Paul Oetken ruled Friday that the group wasn’t specific enough and failed to show Seabrook exerted control over the board with gifts. He also said the employees didn’t represent enough of the membership to show significant financial damage.
Seabrook was charged with corruption in another case that ended in a mistrial.
