on his podcast, talked about how the rivalry started and dredged up the 9/11 controversy in which Francesa and former co-host Chris Russo are accused of making anti-Semitic remarks in the aftermath of the terrorist attack, and calling for New York Jews to sign a loyalty oath stating they are either with the United States or with Israel.

On his podcast, Carton said WFAN ordered the tapes of that mystery show deleted. This year, Deadspin listened to the recordings of the shows in question at the Paley Center and found no such comments were made. Still, the controversy persists.

“Mike, unfortunately, decided it was going to be Jews and Israel, calling Israel a failed experiment and legitimately saying on the radio that every single Jew in New York should take a loyalty oath to America over Israel,” Carton said on his podcast.

Barstool Sports has been in the news this year after its partnership with ESPN went up in smoke when the late-night “Barstool Van Talk” show was canceled after one episode. Former ESPN President John Skipper, who resigned this week citing substance abuse, severed ties with Barstool after the site’s offensive and sexist history was brought up by female ESPN staffers. Skipper, at the time, reasoned ESPN could not distance itself from Barstool’s sophomoric and sexist following.
