Survivor of holiday fire is on mend

-

ONE OF THE Brooklyn teens seriously injured in a blaze likely started by a family menorah is slowly recovering, her uncle said Wednesday.

“She got better,” said Amir Azan, 42, referring to his niece, Shilat Azan, 16. “She’s able to breathe . . . not on her own, but better than yesterday.”

Her father, Yosi, 45, and her brother, Daniel, 15, remain in serious condition in Staten Island University Hospital, he added.

“The doctors say it’s going to be a hard week,” he said, noting the father still hasn’t been told about the death of his wife and three children.

Authorities believe the fire was likely ignited by an oil-lit menorah placed in the living room window of the Azan’s home.

Yosi Azan saved a teenage son and daughter by getting them out a second-floor window, fire officials said.

“He threw them through the window,” a friend who visited the hospital said Thursday.

But he was unable to rescue his wife, Aliza, 39, sons Moshe, 11, and Yitzchak, 7, and Henrietta, 3.

They were all found on the second floor.

On Wednesday morning, thousands of mourners gathered for their funeral in Israel.
