Shaking off Por’ shooting

- BY STEFAN ANDERSON

After returning from his two-game absence due to a knee injury, Kristaps Porzingis had his second-worst scoring game on Thursday evening, though his teammates picked him up in the Knicks’ 102-93 win over the Celtics.

“The game didn’t come to me,” said Porzingis, who finished with one point. “I tried to make some passes. I did the right thing a lot of times but I missed a few of my shots. We got the win. That is what I’m happy about.”

In one of his worst shooting performances (0-for-11 from the floor), Porzingis thought it wasn’t rust from sitting for nearly a week, but that it was just an off night.

“It didn’t feel bad,” he said. “Pregame shooting felt good. It felt good as I let go. It was one of those nights that nothing goes in.”

Even with the Latvian forward’s struggles, his teammates kept encouraging him.

“I talk to him and say shoot it again, you miss I get the rebound, pass it to him and you shoot it again,” said Knicks center Enes Kanter. “There is no player on earth that plays 82 games perfect. He had his ups and downs but he helped us a lot on the defensive end; he’s fine.”

“(Porzingis) is not worried about that, it’s just one game; he’s human,” added Courtney Lee.

The Knicks will head to Detroit to face the Pistons on Friday evening before playing the 76ers on Christmas.

“This game is going to give me extra motivation to come the next game and have a much better game,” Porzingis said.
