Shoot! Health pick out

- Denis Slattery

A RETIRED Air Force colonel and surgeon nominated to be the Pentagon’s health czar withdrew his name from consideration after the Senate stalled his bid over his support for gun control.

Dean Winslow’s appointment was put on hold after he told the armed services committee last month he thinks it’s “insane” civilians can buy assault rifles.

“I am sorry not to be able to assist Defense Secretary Jim Mattis, whom I deeply respect, in building the best and most efficient military health-care system possible,” Winslow wrote in an op-ed in The Washington Post.

Winslow, who served several tours of duty in Afghanistan and Iraq, was questioned by the panel one day after a gunman killed 26 people at a Texas church.
