- Reuven Blau

A MENTALLY ill inmate attacked to Rikers Island correction officers with a ballpoint pen Friday, jail insiders said.

Jerroid Dubois allegedly slashed the officers inside the Anna M. Kross facility at 9:40 a.m., department records show.

Dubois, 52, is in jail facing burglary charges. The department lists him as one of the hundreds of mentally ill detainees behind bars.

One officer was cut on the forehead and the other was sliced on the cheek, photos obtained by the Daily News show.“Once again, our correction officers are the victims of Mayor de Blasio's failed jail policies that have only emboldened the inmates to assault us,” said Elias Husamudeen, president of the Correction Officers Benevolent Association. “If he demonstrated the same passion for protecting our members as he does for running around the country, touting his progressive credentials, we might have a much safer jail system.”

Dubois was arrested immediately a Department of Correction spokesman said.
