Damon loses dad to blood cancer

- Nicole Bitette

MATT DAMON’S father died on Dec. 14 after a long battle with cancer, the actor’s publicist confirmed to the Daily News Saturday.

Kent Damon was 74. He had been suffering from multiple myeloma — a rare blood cancer — which had only become worse in recent months.

The “Good Will Hunting” star had asked for prayers for his father while promoting his upcoming film “Downsizing” just days before his dad’s death.

“It’s been a slow unfolding, my dad’s sick, so that’s been a process we’re going through,” he told “Extra” on Dec. 11. “We’ll take any prayers you got, so throw ’em up there.”

Matt Damon had reportedly been traveling between his press tours and Boston to visit his father during his illness.

In 2011, the actor had revealed his father was in remission for the cancer and the father-son duo attended a fund-raiser for Massachusetts General Hospital’s Cancer Care Center that same year and hosted a private fund-raiser to benefit the Center for Cancer Immunology in 2016.
