Media firm Vice hit in sex harass

THE VICE media company lived up to its name, creating a toxic environment for female staffers who faced a barrage of sexual harassment, a new report says.

More than two dozen women told The New York Times that they experienced or witnessed sexual misconduct at the millennial-focused company — unwanted kisses, groping, lewd comments and propositions for sex.

Three Vice employees received settlements after making allegations of sexual harassment against co-workers, including its current president, The Times reported.

“There is a toxic environment where men can say the most disgusting things, joke about sex openly, and overall a toxic environment where women are treated far inferior than men,” Sandra Miller, the former head of branded production at Vice from 2014 to 2016, told The Times.

The illicit behavior spanned several years and took place in the office, on company outings and at a parties, the report said

One woman said a co-worker took her hand and put it on his crotch as they were riding a Coney Island Ferris wheel after a company trip.

Another said a co-worker resorted to using an umbrella to fend off a male colleague after he grabbed her face and tried to kiss her.

In one of the settlements, Vice President Andrew Creighton paid $135,000 to a former staffer who accused him of firing her after she turned down his pleas for an intimate relationship, the Times reported.

The founders of Vice Media admitted that they “failed as a company” to create a workplace where women felt respected.

“Cultural elements from our past, dysfunction and mismanagement were allowed to flourish unchecked,” Shane Smith and Suroosh Alvi said. “That includes a detrimental ‘boys’ club’ culture that fostered inappropriate behavior that permeated throughout the company. It happened on our watch, and ultimately we let far too many people down. We are truly sorry for this.”
