City to weather: B-r-r-ring it on

- BY RICH SCHAPIRO

BUNDLE UP and batten down the hatches — the bitter cold snap gripping the region is sticking around like an unwanted holiday guest.

Temperatures in the city are forecast to remain well below freezing for at least the next six days.

“Some of these days the high is only 22 degrees,” said National Weather Service meteorologist Dave Stark. “We’re almost talking 20 degrees below the normal high temperature.”

If Tuesday’s 28-degree high felt chilly, buckle up. The temps will plunge even further. By Thursday and Friday, the mercury is expected to hover in the low 20s during the day and lowto-mid teens at night.

New Year’s Eve revelers would be wise to show up in Times Square dressed for the arctic — the overnight low is expected to dip to 12 degrees.

Adding insult to iciness, the beginning of 2018 isn’t looking especially toasty either.

“It doesn’t seem like we have any specific warmup in store,” Stark said.

If the forecast holds, the city would still have a long way to go before eclipsing the record for consecutive days of below-freezing temperatures.

The Big Apple remained frozen for 16 days in a row in 1961 starting on Jan. 19, according to the National Weather Service.
