- Joe Dziemianowicz

WATT A SHOCK!

If you’ve ever groused about soaring utility costs, you’ve got nothing on Mary Horomanski, of Erie, Pa.

Her December electric bill was more than $284 billion — yes, with aB.

“My eyes just about popped out of my head,” Horomanski, 58, told the Erie Times-News. “We had put up Christmas lights, and I wondered if we had put them up wrong.”

There was nothing wrong with the bulbs — the mistake involved an invoice from Penelec power company. After a phone call to report the blunder, Horomanski’s bill was adjusted to reflect the correct payment of $284.46.

“I can’t recall ever seeing a bill for billions of dollars,” Penelec spokesman Mark Durbin told the Morning Call. “We appreciate the customer’s willingness to reach out to us about the mistake.”
