‘Liam’ and ‘Olivia’ are top names

- Erin Durkin

THERE WERE AN awful lot of little Liams and Olivias born in the five boroughs last year — making the names the most popular for babies in the city, according to stats released Wednesday.

Liam claimed the top spot for boys in 2016 from Ethan, which was No. 1 in 2015 but dropped to third place last year, the Health Department said.

Olivia was the top girls’ name for the second straight year.

There were 710 babies named Liam in 2016, and 564 named Olivia, the rankings show.

Next up on the most popular list for girls were Sophia, Emma, and Isabella, while the runners up for boys were Jacob, Ethan and Noah.

Overall, there were 120,367 babies born in New York City in 2016 — a 1.1% decrease from the year before.

Olivia was the top name for white and Asian baby girls, but black families were more likely to choose Ava, and Latino parents favored Isabella.

The popularity of Liam as a boy’s name was driven by Latino parents, while the top name was Noah for blacks, Joseph for whites, and Ethan for Asians.
