Apple craps out in Twitter exchange

-

Eli Apple keeps stepping in s--t. The suspended Giants corner, who yelled “I gotta take a s--t” at reporters on Wednesday, doubled down on his dump Friday afternoon on Twitter.

Raiders corner Gareon Conley, a teammate of Apple’s at Ohio State, tweeted support for Apple that the Giants corner appreciated with the response: “My real brother love you bro.”

A fan tweeted at Apple: “Thought you had to take a s--t.”

Apple answered: “It was a long one but I’m done now appreciate the concern.”

Apple, who was suspended on Wednesday for a pattern of behavior detrimental to the team, including yelling at coaches in Wednesday’s practice, clearly doesn’t understand that he continues to confirm his immaturity with his poop jokes and crude, classless comment.

Giants co-owner John Mara had expressed hope Friday morning that Apple could “be a part of this team’s future,” but he also said that before Apple went all No. 2 on the Giants brand again in the afternoon.

“I think (new GM) Dave (Gettleman) said it well, you don’t want to quit on talent,” Mara said. “I think that’s a discussion we have to have in the offseason. He’s a young guy. I happen to like him personally. I’m obviously disturbed by what’s happened this year. I thought he had a terrific training camp and I was really excited about him as a player coming into the season. So I think we have to figure out just what’s going on with him. But I’d like at the end of the day for him to be a part of this team’s future, but I think that’s going to have to be a discussion with whoever the next head coach is and Dave, as well.”

A GENTLEMAN

Not many current players are familiar with Giants new GM, but defensive tackle Robert Thomas recalls a positive vibe he got from Gettleman during a brief stint with the Panthers in 2016.

“He’s down to earth,” Thomas said. “Very personable but has a hard style.”

Thomas was waived before the start of the 2016 season by the Panthers, never playing a game for them, but even though his time around Gettleman was limited he certainly left an impression with Thomas.

“He would be on the field and speak to us daily, you know. He likes being around those big defensive line guys,” Thomas said. “He’ll start telling you everything he likes but he’ll also tell you what he don’t like.”

THERE’S NO CATCH

Tight end Evan Engram (rib) and wide receiver Sterling Shepard (neck) are out for Sunday’s game against Washington.

Without Engram or Shepard, Eli Manning will be without all his starting receiving threats from the beginning of the season.

Tavarres King (concussion) will also be out.
