Mayor not ready to OK marijuana

- Jillian Jorgensen

MAYOR DE Blasio may think Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ crackdown on legal weed is a “vendetta” — but he’s not ready to give the green stuff the green light in New York.

Despite saying that Sessions’ stance was “an attack on minority communities,” Hizzoner said he was sticking to his plan of watching how other states make out with recreational marijuana before considering legalizing it here.

“I don’t have a change in my viewpoint,” he said. “But I want to study the experience of those states moving forward.”

Nevertheless, he was galled by Sessions’ nixing policy protecting legalized pot — saying it was an affront to states’ rights, a concept often championed on the other side of the aisle.

“The people of those states decided this policy. It’s not for the federal government to intervene for political reasons, and that’s where I think vendetta is the right word,” de Blasio said. “The federal government has no business telling the people of those states how to live.”
