Massive pot for Powerball

The Powerball jackpot climbed to $570 million ahead of Saturday night’s drawing. Five winning numbers were drawn — 12-29-30-33-61— along with the Power Ball number, 26.

According to Powerball’s web site, the cash value of the jackpot would be at least $300 million if taken as a lump sum, enough to buy space heaters for you and everyone in your neighborhood.

The odds of winning the jackpot were roughly equal to the chance of a heatwave before the weekend was over: about 1 in 292.2 million.

The drawing comes on the heels of an announcement that a winning $450 million Mega Millions ticket was sold in Florida.

The winner was not immediately identified.

According to the website, only three Mega Millions jackpots have been larger than the most recent grand prize: a jackpot of $656 million in 2012; a jackpot of $648 million in 2013; and $536 million in 2016.
