Trump: No DACA without the wall

- BY LEONARD GREENE

PRESIDENT TRUMP had a message Saturday for immigration reformers in Congress who don’t want to back his border wall: Dream on.

“We want the wall,” Trump said at a press conference Saturday at Camp David in Maryland. “The wall is going to happen, or we’re not going to have DACA.”

Trump was referring to the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program to protect socalled “Dreamers,” the 800,000 longtime residents brought into the United States illegally as children.

Trump has tied their fate to an $18 billion budget provision he wants to fund a border wall between the U.S. and Mexico. Democrats have already dismissed the proposal, and the standoff could lead to a federal government shutdown.

Trump met with Republicans at the presidential retreat, where he was hashing out his 2018 plan with GOP House and Senate leaders.

Among the items on the agenda at the closed-door meeting were national security, infrastructure and 2018 midterm-election strategy.

Trump expressed his hope for bipartisanship, although no Democrats were in any of the meetings.

White House Chief of Staff John Kelly told reporters Saturday that lawmakers and top White House officials had enjoyed “a couple of glasses of wine together last night.”

Kelly said Trump and his guests watched the new movie “The Greatest Showman,” starring Hugh Jackman.

Trump also said Saturday that he would welcome North Korea’s participation in next month’s Winter Olympics.

Trump’s comments came after Chang Ung, North Korea’s International Olympic Committee representative, said his nation is likely to send a pair of figure skaters to the global competition coming to Pyeongchang, South Korea.
