Upstart dem – i’m $urging vs. b’klyn rep
A 30-YEAR-OLD Harvard grad looking to unseat Rep. Yvette Clarke in the June Democratic primary has raised more than $120,000 since launching his campaign in October, he told the Daily News.
“I think there’s great enthusiasm for not only my campaign but wanting to make a difference in this community,” Adem Bunkeddeko said in a telephone interview.
The candidate (photo) — a Crown Heights resident and member of Community Board 8 who until recently created jobtraining programs at Brooklyn Community Services — said he’d raised $120,949 for the fourth quarter of 2017. Those filings will be made public next month.
“No corporations, no PACs, all from individuals,” he said.
He’ll be up against a 12-year incumbent, Yvette Clarke — daughter of former City Councilwoman Una Clarke. Between the two of them, a Clarke has been an incumbent in either the Council or Congress in Brooklyn since 1991.
Clarke had $94,828 cash on hand at the end of the last filing period, which ran through Sept. 30. Her own fourth quarter filing won’t be public until next month. A campaign spokeswoman declined to say how much she had raised.
