House Republicans said they planned to introduce legislation to address border security and the young immigrants. Trump said, “It should be a bill of love.”

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (photo) wasn’t feeling it. “The problem thus far has been President Trump’s insistence on a completely ineffective and absurdly expensive border wall as a part of any deal on DACA,” the New York Democrat, who was not at the meeting, said on the Senate floor. He said Trump is insisting on money for a wall at the expense of more effective border security measures like drones, infrared sensors and surveillance aircraft.

“The Trump administration would cannibalize funding for these smart border security measures to pay for a wall that won’t work, makes no sense,” Schumer said.

Trump said he’s open to comprehensive immigration reform, despite the opposition it might spark among his base.

“If you want to take it that further step, I’ll take the heat,” he said.
