Small man Donald rips Dem prober
PRESIDENT TRUMP accused Rep. Adam Schiff, the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, of being a leaker hours before the panel voted to release his Democratic rebuttal to a controversial GOP memo on the Russia investigation.
“Little Adam Schiff, who is desperate to run for higher office, is one of the biggest liars and leakers in Washington,” Trump tweeted Monday morning.
“Adam leaves closed committee hearings to illegally leak confidential information. Must be stopped!”
Schiff (photo) then fired back on Twitter.
“Mr. President, I see you’ve had a busy morning of ‘Executive Time.’ Instead of tweeting false smears, the American people would appreciate it if you turned off the TV and helped solve the funding crisis, protected Dreamers or . . . really anything else,” he responded.
The back-and-forth came as Schiff has been pushing back against a GOP-crafted memo that was declassified by Trump, which accuses the Justice Department and FBI of acting improperly when it investigated a former Trump campaign adviser with ties to Russia.
He’s also pushed for the release of his memo, which he said shows how the version assembled by committee Chairman Devin Nunes “cherry-picked” facts and is misleading.
Trump praised Nunes as “a man of tremendous courage and grit” on Twitter, and told a crowd during a speech in Ohio that the congressman had “caught” people trying to set him up.
“Oh, did we catch them in the act? They are very embarrassed,” he said.
A short time late, the House intelligence panel voted unanimously to make the classified Democratic document public. It now goes to Trump for a five-day review, and he will decide whether to allow its release — as he did with the Republican document last week.
A White House rep said Trump will “consider” the Democratic memo’s release the same way he considered the Republican document.
