Almost anyone between the ages of 1 and 75 can be an eye donor and someday leave the gift of sight to someone who is blind. Even people who wear glasses can be donors and make a difference to someone who needs a sight-restoring cornea transplant. Recently, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced the launch of the state’s fully electronic Donate Life Registry. Now, it’s as easy as a click of a button to sign up to become an organ, eye and tissue donor. Just visit The EyeBank’s website, www.eyedonation.org, click on the button that says Donate Life, complete the New York State Donate Life Registry Enrollment form and submit. It only takes a minute to someday leave a sight-saving or life-saving gift to someone in need. If you provide an email address, a confirmation of your enrollment in the Donate Life Registry will be sent to you via email.
New Yorkers also can sign up in the Donate Life Registry, when getting a new or renewed driver’s license either in person at a Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) office or when completing forms by mail.
All New York City residents who apply for a free municipal IDNYC card also have the option of enrolling to be an organ, eye and tissue donor by completing the section provided on the application.
