-

MATT Duchene notched a goal and two assists as the undermanned Senators beat the visiting Devils, 5-3, Tuesday night.

Mike Hoffman, Chris DiDomenico, Colin White and Zack Smith also scored for Ottawa. Craig Anderson made 30 saves. The Senators were already without veteran forwards Mark Stone (knee) and Bobby Ryan (hand) when they learned they would be without Derick Brassard, who is banged up, and Nate Thompson, who left the morning skate early as he continues to deal with a lower-body injury.

Travis Zajac, Taylor Hall and Kyle Palmieri scored for the Devils. Keith Kinkaid allowed four goals on 20 shots before he was replaced by Eddie Lack, who gave up one goal on 12 shots. Trailing 5-2 to start the third period, the Devils made it a two-goal game on Palmieri’s 11th of the season.

LAKERS FINED FOR TAMPERING

The Los Angeles Lakers have been fined $50,000 for violating the NBA’s tampering rule again.

League officials made the announcement Tuesday in response to an interview team president Magic Johnson did with ESPN.

Johnson was discussing the skills of Milwaukee star Giannis Antetokounmpo and said the Greek native would put the Bucks “on the map” and bring them an NBA title.

It’s the third time in less than 12 months the Lakers have been disciplined for tampering.

The team was fined $500,000 last summer after the league found general manager Rob Pelinka had been communicating with Paul George’s agent while George was with the Pacers. Previously, the NBA issued a warning to the team after Johnson winked at George during a television interview.

SURGERY FOR TWINS’ SANTANA

Twins right-hander Ervin Santana will miss the start of the regular season after undergoing unexpected surgery on his right middle finger.

The Twins announced the 35-year-old right-hander had the procedure done Tuesday in New York by Dr. Charles Melone, after experiencing discomfort during a bullpen session last week. Santana is expected to need 10 to 12 weeks of rehabilitation before he can pitch in a major-league game, which would keep him out of the rotation until at least midApril.
