Nazi-lover out at Qns. condo
A QUEENS condo manager who displayed Nazi memorabilia in his building’s lobby will have to take down the posters and quit his post, the city Commission on Human Rights announced Friday.
The commission reached a settlement with the Condominium Board of Managers at 47-55 39th Place that calls for Neal Milano — who had displayed posters about Nazi Germany and omperial Japan in the lobby — to step down, along with two other board members, and to remove the offensive imagery.
The condo will also have to update its “house rules” to comply with the city’s Human Rights Law — and remove a provision requiring tenants to prove their immigration status.
The fascist imagery in the lobby will be replaced with posters notifying residents of their rights and the city’s fair housing policies.
“We hope this settlement sends a strong message to housing providers citywide that New York City does not tolerate discrimination,” said Sapna Raj, assistant commissioner for the human rights commission’s law enforcement bureau.
The condo board is still under investigation by Attorney General Eric Schneiderman for potential state civil rights violations.
“We are encouraged by the actions taken tonight by the NYC Commission on Human Rights with whom we have been working closely on this investigation,” Schneiderman said.
