Slasher busted

Cops: We got guy who cut 2 women downtown

- BY THOMAS TRACY

POLICE HAVE charged an unhinged man accused of slashing two women during unprovoked attacks five blocks apart on the Lower East Side, authorities said Saturday.

Shawn Thomas’ slashing spree began near Suffolk and Rivington Sts. when he lunged at a 60-yearold woman about 1:50 p.m. Friday, according to cops. He allegedly raked a blade across the woman’s face, cutting her cheek.

About seven minutes later, Thomas allegedly charged at a 57-year-old woman on Ridge and Delancey Sts., slashing her in the face.

“He just walked up and slashed them,”a police source said. “He didn’t say anything. There is no indication as to why he did it.”

Officers found Thomas, 30, at Avenue D and E. Third St., about a half mile from the two attacks.

Medics took Thomas’ first victim to Lower Manhattan Hospital for treatment. The second victim was treated at Bellevue Hospital. Both suffered minor injuries. Thomas, was ordered held on $350,000 bail at his arraignment in Manhattan Criminal Court on Saturday.

He appeared, silent, in front of Judge Herbert Moses wearing a black long-sleeved shirt and gray sweatpants.

Friday was the second time in a week that cops had busted Thomas, who lives on the Lower East Side.

On Monday, police came upon him in a stairwell of the Samuel Gompers Houses on Pitt St. They gave him a summons for marijuana possession and trespass.

Cops are also investigating a pair of unrelated knife attacks.

A peeved pick-up artist slashed a 28-year-old woman in the face when she spurned his advances in Midtown early Saturday — as the victim’s boyfriend watched in horror, cops said.

The stranger approached the victim on W. 44th St. and Eighth Ave. about 4 a.m. and started laying his rap down.

When her boyfriend intervened, the two men began to argue. A moment later, the cruel Casanova flashed a blade and cut the young woman's chin before dashing off.

Medics took the woman to Mount Sinai St. Luke’s Hospital with a minor wound.

And cops were still hunting Saturday for the attacker who slashed a 17-year-old boy in the face as the victim tried to sell a pair of sneakers at an East Harlem train station.

The teen was attacked at the E. 125th St. and Lexington Ave. stop about 5:30 p.m. Friday after setting up a meeting with the footwear buyers on Facebook.

He collapsed in front of the token booth and was taken to New York-Presbyterian Columbia Hospital in stable condition.

Anyone with information on the unsolved attacks is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
