sam It’s Sunset Park’s turn to celebrate Lunar New Year today, Sunday, with a big parade of lion and dragon dancers down Eighth Ave. from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Parade participants will gather at 49th St. and Eighth Ave. and go to 61st St. in Brooklyn.

Sixtieth St. will also be affected sending some traffic to 65th St. On Sunday, the eastbound (due north) lane of the Gowanus will be closed between the Verrazano and 70th St. until 3 p.m., as will the same part of the westbound HOV lane.

Monday is a SAD (summons alert day) because even though it is a major federal holiday it is not a major parking holiday in NYC. Many people park in No Parking Monday thru Friday zones thinking Presidents’ Day would be treated like a Sunday— wrong! All parking regulations remain in effect for the holiday, except for alternate side parking rules.

Public schools are off this week, which opens up parking spaces near schools, but that does not apply to any private school that may be open. Check before you park.
