Mobster gets stuffed in jail

HE’S GOT an appetite for self-destruction.

Bonanno crime family consigliere John (Porky) Zancocchio is back to eating prison slop after visits to a mobbedup Italian restaurant and a Staten Island pizzeria violated his $1 million bail deal.

The defendant, best known for taking bets from baseball’s banned all-time hits leader Pete Rose, had court approval only to attend a wake, funeral Mass and burial for his aunt on Feb. 11-12.

“Instead of abiding by the strict terms of his release, the defendant visited several locations . . . in clear violation of this court’s order,” prosecutors alleged in court papers.

Manhattan Federal Judge Allen Hellerstein agreed, sending the gangster back to the Metropolitan Correctional Center Wednesday over the objections of defense attorneys.

Court papers detailed ex-con Zancocchio’s near two-hour Feb. 11 visit to Bella Mama Rose, a red sauce stalwart he allegedly co-owns with Gambino family captain Frank Camuso.

“He was seen both behind and in front of the bar, and speaking with restaurant customers,” according to prosecutors.

One day later, after attending the funeral, the 60-year-old Zancocchio spent more than two hours inside renowned Denino’s pizzeria.

That was followed by a stop at the bakery, where the defendant in a racketeering conspiracy case greeted a few people inside before walking back to his Port Richmond home.

Defense lawyers argued in court papers that prosecutors were making a mountain out of a little bit of marinara sauce.

“For the government to describe Mr. Zancocchio’s actions as worthy of a bail revocation is ludicrous,” defense lawyers asserted.

“All of the named places are located within the same Staten Island neighborhood and are within walking distance of Mr. Zancocchio’s home.”

Zancocchio has prior convictions for tax evasion.

Defense lawyer John Meringolo said the feds demonstrated no proof that his client was in the wrong.

“The FBI summoned a surveillance team to catch Mr. Zancocchio speaking with felons, which was not the case,” he said.
