13 kids on mend, more raps for parents

- Nancy Dillon

AS THEIR 13 rescued kids embrace lives filled with Harry Potter, new shoes and first toothbrushes, accused torture parents David and Louise Turpin were slapped with more charges Friday.

The parents from hell appeared in a Riverside, Calif., courtroom and pleaded not guilty to three new charges each of child abuse. Louise Turpin, 49, also was charged with one felony count of assault.

Prosecutors allege Louise assaulted one of the couple’s daughters on or after Jan. 15, 2015, by a means “likely to produce great bodily injury.” Together

The same daughter — identified only as Jor T. in the new complaint — was listed in prior court paperwork as the victim of a lewd act allegedly committed by David Turpin, 56, between November 2012 and November 2013, when the girl was younger than 14.

The Turpins, being held on $12 million bail each for allegedly abusing their 13 kids, were ordered back to court March 23. The judge set their preliminary hearing for May 14.

The parents previously pleaded not guilty to multiple counts of torture, child abuse, dependent adult abuse and false imprisonment dating back to 2010. Prosecutors say the parents routinely starved and shackled their kids as they held them prisoner inside a filthy single-family house in Perris, Calif.

Their horrific abuse was revealed when their 17-year-old daughter escaped out a window Jan. 14 and called 911. Police initially thought all the siblings were minors, due to their small size. They later learned seven were adults, ranging in age from 18 to 29 years old.
