Drury in session & already a HBP scare

-

BRADENTON, Fl. — Brandon Drury had an eventful spring debut as a Yankee, which included a scare. Drury, the team’s third-base acquisition from Arizona, lined a single in his first at-bat, but was hit in the left hand during his second AB. The 25-year-old remained in the game, though, before being replaced by Miguel Andujar in the fourth. No X-rays were necessary. “When it came up and in and hit me in the hand, it kind of scared me at first,” Drury said. “But when I got to first, I could tell that I was good. I just wanted to keep it moving a little bit and now it feels great. Just had some ice on it. I’m 100 percent.”

Drury also made a diving play at third, but Tyler Austin was unable to scoop the throw at first. He thought he rushed the throw a bit.

Either way, Drury’s first unofficial game as a Yankee is out of the way.

“It is spring training, so obviously it’s going to be different once Opening Day comes,” Drury said. “But it’s still a baseball game, you’re still putting on a Yankee uniform and it’s special.” season, but given that the team is erring on the side of caution, it sounds unlikely.

“I think that’s an optimistic look at it, and there’s no chance we’re going to push it too much with him,” Boone said. “But I’m still hopeful that this isn’t something that’s going to cost him the bulk of the season by any means.”

Estrada has graduated to using the elliptical, according to his manager.

Also, pitching prospect Albert Abreu (appendix surgery) played catch again on Saturday. “I think he’s progressing exactly how we hoped,” Boone said.
