Yankee ‘engine’, the ‘Miracurl’ & women’s hockey’s golden story . . .

says that he is editing his description of this year’s Yankee team as “The Little Engine That Could.”

“How about this?” he told me on Friday. “How about ‘The Big Engine That Could’?” I’m good with that. It feels like a hundred years ago that the late addressing the subject of justice in the NCAA, said that the NCAA was so mad at Kentucky that it gave Cleveland State two more years of probation.

You have to say that the Milwaukee Bucks are bearing up nicely after making the coaching change from to Not gonna lie:

Love the “Miracurl on Ice” headline after Team USA won that gold medal in curling.

And by the way?

I was there in Lake Placid for every game that guys played in 1980.

I was there the night before the Opening Ceremonies when

goal tied Sweden, and was the real beginning of the greatest hockey story ever told.

We all stood in the snow, game after game, and talked to

of East Boston and and had them tell us about another improbable win in their improbable run.

I was lucky enough to be there the night that Johnson scored with one second left in the first period against the Soviets to make the game 2-2, and make the Soviet coach, so angry that he put the best goalie in the world,

on the bench. Finally that night, with 10 minutes left, exactly, Eruzione put one past the backup goalie to make it 4-3, which is the way it ended that Friday night, as asked the country if it believed in miracles.

I believe it is still the most famous game ever played by an American sports team in anything.

But the best hockey moment since then was Team USA beating Team Canada in the gold medal game for the women, in a game that ended after 2 a.m. in the East.

Team USA tied it at the end of regulation and survived a frenetic and frantic 4-on-4 overtime, and finally won in the shootout when a goalie named made the last save of the 2018 Winter Games.

Team USA, of course, had lost a heartbreak gold medal game to Canada four years ago.

Just not this time. Their time. It wasn’t a miracle, thirty-eight years after Lake Placid.

Just one of the great American Olympic hockey stories of them all.

And did I mention that there were five Boston College women on the team? The idea that we are going to make American schools safer because the English teacher is packing is beyond ridiculous.

So is the idea that the next madman with an AR-15 is going to be scared off because Mr. Chips might have a gun in his top drawer.

You have to love the idea that this president doesn’t ever talk about banning assault weapons, but does want to ban bump stocks, which makes rifles too much like assault weapons I continue to believe that the Oklahoma City Thunder are going to be a very tough out for either the Warriors or the Rockets in the playoffs.

I am waiting as patiently as I can for new seasons from these two amazing series: One is “Billions.” The other is “Bosch.” Every time makes a few birdies, one of the Lupica boys reminds me that if they’re measuring him early for a green jacket, it’s a 44 long. If there is a baseball version of a gym rat, it is the new third baseman for the Mets,

I’m not nearly as excited about the point guard competition between and asI thought I was going to be, I can’t lie.

Looks like the Garden will be wide-open this spring if you want to hold your prom there.
