Don: Kill dealers
PRESIDENT TRUMP has a solution to the nation’s drug problem — just kill the dealers, a report out Sunday says.
The President has privately mused about executing drug dealers as a way to address the scourge of illegal narcotics, according to Axios.
Trump believes drug dealers are as bad as serial killers and should get the death penalty, the website reported, quoting several administration officials.
“He’ll say, ‘You know, the Chinese and Filipinos don’t have a drug problem,’ ” a source told the site. “They just kill them.’ ”
According to the report, Trump is well aware how unlikely it would be for lawmakers to get on board with capital punishment for drug dealers, but it hasn’t stopped him from promoting the idea to anyone who will listen.
Drug dealers, he said, should fear for their lives. But Trump has his limits. “The President makes a distinction between those that are languishing in prison for low-level drug offenses and the kingpins hauling thousands of lethal doses of fentanyl into communities, that are responsible for many casualties in a single weekend,” White House counselor Kellyanne Conway told Axios.
Trump may back legislation requiring a five-year mandatory minimum sentence for traffickers who deal as little as 2 grams of fentanyl, the website said.
Conway said there is support among law enforcement, health professionals and grieving families for tougher criminal sentencing statutes.
Trump has told confidants that a softer approach to drug reform will never work, the report said.
Fentanyl, a synthetic opioid, can be lethal in extremely small doses.
Much of it is manufactured in Chinese labs.
