NBAer’s ex slams claims of forgery
“BASKETBALL Wives” star Gloria Govan is shooting back at claims by her hoopster ex-hubby Matt Barnes that she forged his name to buy her parents a house and to lease a club.
In new divorce paperwork obtained by the Daily News, Govan states that Barnes, who recently retired from the Golden State Warriors, actively participated in the property deals.
“Regarding the Oakland residence in which my parents live, my father borrowed $100,000 from (Barnes) to help with the purchase of that house. My dad repaid (Barnes) with a cashier’s check in the amount of $100,000 dated Nov. 1, 2010,” she said in a statement that included a copy of the check as an exhibit.
“It is my understanding that (Barnes’) name was on the property for a short time as security for the loan of $100,000,” she claimed.
Govan (photo inset, top) said Barnes (inset, bottom) was also “very aware” of the agreement to lease the club in Oakland.
She told the court she and Barnes shot a comedy show together at the club, and “use of the venue was free because of (Barnes’) participation in the property in the first place.”
The new court paperwork was a response to Barnes’ filing earlier this month accusing Govan of financial misconduct.
He claimed Govan, who’s now dating former Knicks coach Derek Fisher, not only forged his name on the deeds but also “diverted” funds from his accounts without his knowledge.
He also alleged the engagement and wedding rings that he reclaimed from Govan were not worth the $200,000 she previously stated.
Govan clapped back at that, too.
“Regarding the engagement and wedding rings that (Barnes) took and sold, it was he that told me the rings were worth $225,000. He now states in his declaration that $200,000 is not the value. He does not say what he contends the value to be,” she stated.
The parties have a hearing set for Thursday.
Barnes, 37, and Govan, 33, married in 2013 and had twin sons. Barnes filed for divorce in January 2015.
In October 2015, Barnes allegedly punched Fisher during a dispute with the since-fired Knicks coach at Govan’s Southern California residence.
