Boycott of FedEx, Apple, Amazon

Among the businesses already cutting ties with with NRA in the wake of the Florida high school shooting that left 17 dead are Delta and United airlines, MetLife, Hertz, Best Western and Avis.

Jeni Britton Bauer, the founder of Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams, used an Instagram post to warn FedEx that she’ll look elsewhere for her company’s 100,000 annual shipments unless the company changes its stance.

“I’m talking about the NRA,” she said. “I’m talking about stricter gun control. A majority of Americans want it and the NRA is supporting stuff that we don’t get behind. OK? UPS is out there man!”

But the NRA has insisted its positions and the support of its membership will not be swayed by the latest boycott threat. “The loss of a discount will neither scare nor distract one single NRA member from our mission to stand and defend the individual freedoms that have always made American the greatest nation in the world,” the organization said in a statement. President Trump said he had lunch with NRA leaders Wayne LaPierre and Chris Cox at the White House over the weekend. There has been pushback on some of the companies that have cut ties. Georgia’s lieutenant governor threatened to torpedo a tax break Delta has been looking for because of its decision. Asked for the White House’s stance, press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said, “We’re not wading into other sidebar conversations right now.” “The administration is focused when it comes to this conversation on what we can do to help the safety and security of America’s children,” she said. THE FBI HAS received more than 40 reports of potential threats to New York area schools in the days after the Florida mass shooting, authorities said Tuesday. FBI Assistant Director in Charge William Sweeney said the flood of tips following the Feb. 14 Parkland school rampage came as no surprise. “It’s almost like you see after any event. You always see a spike in reporting,” Sweeney said at a media roundtable in Manhattan. “Everybody’s calling in school threats.” The tips were reported for schools in the city, as well as Long Island and the Hudson Valley. The FBI has come under fire after admitting it failed to take action when a tipster called a month before the Parkland school massacre warning about confessed killer Nikolas Cruz.
