COP-PERV RAP
Often exposed self in front of female Finest: DA
A MARRIED NYPD officer exposed himself to five female colleagues at different times over the course of about a year — once flashing a probationary officer while asking her about her career goals, according to the Brooklyn district attorney’s office.
Officer Anthony Avosso, 31, who has three kids, repeatedly whipped out his erect penis in front of female cops assigned to the 60th Precinct between September 2016 and February, prosecutors charge.
Avosso, a 10-year veteran assigned to the aggressive plainclothes anti-crime unit, even masturbated in a squad car until the female officer on patrol with him had to leave the vehicle, prosecutors allege.
“Don’t you think it's weird that I’m playing with myself,” Avosso said after masturbating in front of one women, authorities claim.
Assistant District Attorney Adriana Rodriguez said Avosso felt emboldened to expose himself in front of his colleagues at any location and time.
On a subway ride back to the Coney Island stationhouse, Avosso showed his privates to a colleague on the F train, the Brooklyn DA said. He pulled it out in a patrol van outside a Wendy’s on Shore Parkway. He flashed a female officer standing on the sidewalk outside the 60th Precinct stationhouse on W. Eighth St. and again inside while the two were in a room alone together, authorities charge. Avosso (below) allegedly targeted one colleague three times, exposing himself during conversations in the station. Finally fed up, she reported him to her Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association union rep on Feb. 16 after she called him a “pervert” for pulling down his fly. Avosso was arraigned Friday after a grand jury handed down an indictment for seven counts of public lewdness and four counts of exposing himself.
“There is no place for this defendant’s alleged outrageous behavior anywhere in our society and especially within our police department, Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez said.
Prosecutors asked Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Danny Chun to set bail at $7,500, arguing that Avosso abused his power as a field training officer in a male-dominated precinct. He was released without bail. Avosso has been suspended from the force since the investigation came to light last month.
If convicted of one of the counts of public lewdness, Avosso faces up to three months in jail.
